No, shooting them isn't the answer. Merely displaying your weapon of choice and smiling at them is usually enough that they wind up with a load in their pants.

I'm speaking from experience (from the gun owner side) from long, long, long (decade and a half or more) ago.

You keep a brick or two in your ash tray? That's just crazy!

Retaliating on the road may seem the way to "man up" or whatever but the truth is as crappy as the person is for throwing crap at your car, you have no idea who that person is, what sort of skills or weapons he may posses. Sure it might seem like a "wuss" move to not start returning fire on the road, but it's far less stupid. If you start throwing crap back at someone you shouldn't feel bad if it moves to the side of the road and they hand you your teeth and leave you pretty worked over.

If someone threw crap at me, I would make sure I had all the information about them and the vehicle and then let them go on their way - pics are good too, and I always have a cam in my car. Personally, there really isn't anything worth getting in a fight with some fool I know nothing about unless my or my girl's life is in danger. But that's just me. I have been in a couple situations that involved getting friends together ASAP and heading into san jose or somewhere to save a friend because of crap like this that could have been totally avoided. Your choice is: make a difficult situation that you possibly will not get out of to "save face" with some fool you may never see again or make efforts to get out of there asap simply because it's not worth it. Imagine being a young girl in her car alone surrounded by 5 guys who start doing things like slashing tires and such till the calvary gets there or worse yet being a solo guy who thought he could take them but ends up in the emergency room w/ 3 stab wounds. Both of these have happened to close friends of mine who were in situations like this that started out as simple as flipping someone off. It's important to pick your battles. All it takes is the right "nutritional supplement" or smoking from the right pipe for someone to be at a level that you simply cannot match - if only because you value your life and they just don't.

Be careful about retaliating against a minor. You don't want to end up in jail because of their retarded behavior!

Brandishing guns to scare people sounds a bit Phil Spector to me.
