Not that it really matters or is it on topic but..
The gay community in sf is pretty much localized to a few square blocks in the castro...the whole castro is not a gay district...
Per capita and in total numbers I'm sf is not first in either, maybe 10years ago, but as of recent new york and even tel aviv have surpassed sf...a few of my gay friends don't even like sf...castro is nasty - new york is where they all moved (I had a talk about this recently haha its fresh in my mind)
Just because sf is considered more tolerant doesn't mean its the "gayest"

My uncle used to live in the Castro. He was STOKED when they bought there house at the top of the hill and got out of the Castro.
And here you go.... these stats are as recent as are available... Not 10 years old...

NY is tops in numbers. S.F. is higher in percentage. Rio is definitely number 1. But the statement still stands. You might as well say you hate black people and be standing in the middle of oakland.

I don't agree wit homosexuality not my cup of tea, and my religion says its bad.
THAT BEING SAID!!!!!!
It is not ok to judge, and it is never ok to discriminate against other people. Every human on this planet deserves to have equal rights and not be discriminated against as long as they are not doing something to hurt themselves or others.
It is sad that a public figure would make a statement as ignorant as he did.

He is a public figure. Like it or not it's part of the job description. Not only that, he is employed by the S.F. 49rs and the NFL. He is therefore a representative of both organizations.
When you make a public statement it's not just "an opinion" anymore.
Have any opinion you want. Keep it out of the papers. I'm sure there are TONS of homophobes and racists in the NFL. Just shut up and keep it out of the press. This is a distraction to the organization and the players.

a public figure, either a public official or any other person pervasively involved in public affairs, or
a limited purpose public figure, meaning those who have "thrust themselves to the forefront of particular public controversies in order to influence the resolution of the issues involved." A "particularized determination" is required to decide whether a person is a limited purpose public figure, which can be variously interpreted.

You're concerned with what other people are going to think about what a player said. Maybe it SHOULD be known what players are thinking. Maybe it would point out the fact that the people we idolize and pay so obscenely are racist and homophobic. Maybe that shouldn't be ok?
Last I checked, he has the right to say what he wants, and the media has the right to print it. Just like you and I have a right to not give a **** what a guy who throws ***** and gets beat for a living has to say. Here's the direct quote:
No, we don't got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do. Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can't be…in the locker room man. Nah.
It gets better.
The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel...

Not to mention, there's a guy playing on the other team who helped stab a man to death not too long ago, but he's a REALLY good football player, so we'll sweep that under the rug and shine the light on the gay hating cornerback.

Yea, it's on the 49ers post. In any case, he's dumb to say something as hateful about it as he did. You can feel that way, but in front of the media you better be smart about it. In any case, he backtracked real fast after the 49ers got on him about it probably within 30 minutes of stepping off the podium.
Definitely not his brightest moment.
I mean isn't he black? There was a time when he was categorized as colored and wasn't allowed to play football.
I don't get it with these comments, like a black dude hatin' on gay when in fact he was black and has some ancestry of being oppressed.

Following a Super Bowl XXXIV party in Atlanta on January 31, 2000, a fight broke out between Lewis and his companions and another group of people, resulting in the stabbing deaths of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar. Lewis and two companions, Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting, were questioned by Atlanta police, and 11 days later the three men were indicted on murder and aggravated-assault charges. The fight occurred about 200 yards from the Cobalt Lounge at 265 East Paces Ferry Road in the Buckhead Village neighborhood about two miles north of downtown Atlanta where Lewis had been celebrating.[45][46] The white suit Lewis was wearing the night of the killings has never been found. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard alleged the blood-stained suit was dumped in a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant.[47] A knife found at the scene did not have any fingerprints or DNA. Lewis subsequently testified that Oakley and Sweeting had bought knives earlier in Super Bowl week from a Sports Authority where Lewis had been signing autographs.[46][48] Baker's blood was found inside of Lewis's limousine.[49]
Lewis' attorneys, Don Samuel and Ed Garland, of the Atlanta law firm Garland, Samuel & Loeb, negotiated a plea agreement with Howard, where the murder charges against Lewis were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against Oakley and Sweeting,[50] and his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.[15] Lewis admitted he gave a misleading statement to police on the morning after the killings. Superior Court Judge Alice D. Bonner sentenced Lewis to 12 months' probation, the maximum sentence for a first-time offender,[51] and he was fined $250,000 by the NFL, which was believed to be the highest fine levied against an NFL player for an infraction not involving substance abuse.[52] Under the terms of the sentence, Lewis could not use drugs or alcohol during the duration of the probation.
Oakley and Sweeting were acquitted of the charges in June 2000.[53][54] No other suspects have ever been arrested for the crime.
The following year, Lewis was named Super Bowl XXXV MVP. However, the signature phrase "I'm going to Disney World!" was given instead to quarterback Trent Dilfer.[55]
On April 29, 2004, Lewis reached a settlement with four-year-old India Lollar, born months after the death of her father Richard, pre-empting a scheduled civil proceeding. Lewis also reached an undisclosed settlement with Baker's family.[53]
