WTB: Radar Detector

Wondering if anyone is considering selling their radar detector OR if there are any Bay Area stores that carry the popular models?

Thanks.

I agree. Don't waste your time with anything but a V1.

Whats with all the V1 ******. Save your money get a Passport 8500. You can't go wrong with either though.

Do you research first. The Passport 8500 blows the V1 out of the water in all tests. Try www.radartest.com. The V1 WAS the best 10 years ago. Within that time there hasnt been any changes to it. Sure its nice, but not even close to the 8500.

Happy shopping!

Radartests.com is biased.

v1 > passport 8500 anyday

arrows > no arrows

Passport
1. detects radar and laser

V1
1. detects radar and laser
2. can track multiple signals (and gives you a count of them)
3. gives direction of all sources, indicating also where the strongest one was
4. front and rear radar and laser detection

In California Ka Band is pretty much all that matters (even most cities use Ka), and I doubt you will find a test that says the V1 is a better Ka detector than the 8500.(equal maybe, greater, no) V1 is better for Laser, but if your V1 detects Laser you are already ****ed. So if to you arrows are worth $100+ dollars then by all means get the V1.

edit: I am a cheap bastard so obviously arrows arent worth it for me

Actually I was going to suggest if you're averse to Mike Valentine for whatever reason, maybe you don't like his picture or his adds- the Passport 8500 is probably the next best thing.

Pretty much everything else is false security and even with the best- laser or instant-on Ka band can still bust you before you can do anything about it.

But having arrows does come in handy sometimes, and Stevedood has a real job, he can afford a V1.

3. gives direction of all sources, indicating also where the strongest one was
4. front and rear radar and laser detection
1. The 8500 does this too and better
2. 8500 does this also, with a nicer display AND shows signal strength AND the actual radar band.
3. Only advantage the V1 has over the 8500, I will admit
4. 8500 has this also

and to add another point, the 8500 has a remapable microprocessor that can be reflashed when upgrades and new technology is available. I have personally used both detectors while driving. I own the 8500, a friend of mine has the V1. One road trip using 2 way radios with my friend as lead car I picked up all KA bands about 1 mile before he did. Keep in mind this was in the central valley of cali (flat and straight). Im not just jockin the 8500 cuz I have it, I did my research before buying, I just as well would have no problem laying down the cash for the V1, but as it turns out its not worth it with the 8500 on the market. I realize the V1 has a huge following just cuz of the prestige it carries, thats cool, its a nice unit. Just not quite as good as the 8500.

i roll wit the 8500. V1 was too $$$ for me. and the 8500 was on sale. sure, the V1 has arrows. but u can tell where the radar is coming from with the 8500 by listening to the warning or looking at the strength of the radar detected.
