WRX vs WRX ....what went wrong?

So, I have two friends with 2004 WRXs. One is blue and one is black. The black WRX has rota tarmac II's, blitz nurspec catback, intake silencer removed, and a TXS rfl bov(may be loss of power...). The blue WRX has absolutely nothing besides an unbolted muffler and the intake silencer removed. Throughout stopped races, and moving races including the freeway, the blue WRX would always end up pulling late in the race (3rd and 4th up) past the black WRX. We couldn't really figure it out, besides of there being detonation problems in the black WRX recently. What do you guys think?

Detonation isn't some joke its a serious issue get that fixed with proper engine management or put that stock bov.

BTW does your friend have larger wheels? Heavier wheels means slower car.

Completely agreed! Thats why I have a blue 04' wrx sitting in my driveway.

No really, there is obviously something wrong with the black wrx. Did he have the mods put in, or did he put them in himself?

I'm guessing it's the wheels.
Were both cars broken in properly?

What is proper break in? I drove my car at <4K RPM for the first 1000 miles. Next few thousand miles I daily hit 5500RPMs. I now have just under 12K miles on it, and have taken it to 7K a couple times.

I am still all stock but would like to drive another wrx that is stock or go head to head with one. =)

Oh, and my wagon is blue w/ painted skirts, so its eub0r FAST!

;D

dude, eliminate the unknown factors: use stock rims and stock bov. if that doesn't work, remove the "guidance system" and put in a more capable one.
