My experience has been - if people are going to do a hard narcotic (cocaine, PCP, heroin) they are going to do that regardless of what they do to get there.
Fact is people I know that do hard stuff, yes, smoked Cannabis too, but as far back as I can remember them always saying 'dude, I've always wanted to try coke'.
If you want a REAL gateway drug - nicotine. Smoking cigarettes starts the WHOLE process.

^ exactly.... i think people dont consider nicotine to be gateway simply by virtue of it being legal. how about alcohol. lowers inhibition (beer goggles, anyone?) especially during the major developmental years of your life (teens to college).

if somehow anyone says he got better performance because of smoking weed, that would be the quote of the century, however I wouldn't be surprised if this escalates into further investigation to see if he has done performance increasing drugs

They should allow medical marijuana...but restrict it to the form of a pill...
From a scientific perspective...dosages can be better managed...and like other painkillers (vicadine, etc...), it can be managed through the current pharmaceutical network that we already have in place in the US.
From a social perspective, it would reduce second hand smoke, and nuisance from the odor.
