work on my car at TechShop today.. very disappointing
I learned about TechShop from an old post here on i-club.. i was trying to find a place that let me rent time at a lift and so i tried that place after looking the equipment list.
http://www.techshop.ws/equipment.html
I got stoked when I saw a lift on that list.. i thought that i could get the lift all day for $30. ha.
Turns out I should learn to read more closely.. I did not realize that the website says that is the PLANNED equipment list. the reality is much more disappointing. there is no lift, no dyno. There isn't even an indoor space to work on the car!
I ended up working in the parking lot at the back of the building, in the exact same conditions that I normally work in at home. outdoors, in a parking lot, on a piece of cardboard. what a waste of my time driving down to Menlo Park from SF.

imagine what the insurance costs would be for having a public lift.... however, the idea for that place is an awesome one (but with so many different things available to work on I wonder how helpful any employees would be if needed)

i used my own tools (even the cardboard i was lying on i brought myself ) and it was outside so i really was no better off than doing it at home
EDIT: everyone signs a liability waiver when they walk in through the doors, so i think that should offset a lot of the insurance risk?
