My roomate has a pc with SBC hi-speed internet and I have a mac g5 with no internet. Im assuming the pc needs a wireless router, but what do I need? Some software or hardware? Im clueless to the wireless stuff. Any recommendations?

Depending on which SBC DSL modem your roommate has, you may already have a wireless router. The white and grey 2wire modem is also a router/wireless access point. Then you would just need a USB wireless adaptor that works with a Mac.

you just need an airport extreme card.
your G5 is is ready to plug this dude in. antenna is installed.
then you rommie needs to get a wireless access point.
then both you just connect wirelessly or, who every is closest to the WAP, you can connect via wired.
if that is you, you just saved $79...

You may need this if you go wireless - Airport Extreme. Your G5 might have one already.

so if the pc has the correct modem, I just need to buy a usb wireless adapter...then I guess I would have to go into my settings and adjust them or something? how much do the adapters go for?

The modem will be external to the computer. It's either going to be a black speedstream modem or the white/grey 2wire one. The black one is just a modem, not a router or anything else. If this is the one he's got, you'll need a wireless router as well. The white/grey modem is also a router and wireless access point. If this is what he's got, all you'll need is the Airport Extreme.

You most likely already have a wireless adapter in your G5. When did you buy the G5?
If you don't have one, you will need to purchase one (Belkin I believe works well, or you can get an internal apple wireless card), and install the software that comes with it, and simply select the network to which you want to connect. Shouldn't be any harder than that, it's actually pretty simple on a mac.
Wireless routers are ~$50 these days for incase you need one.

If I recall correctly, you do not need an airport base station to use wireless with apple techonology. To my knowledge, Airports from Apple are just glorified really expensive wireless accesspoints.
Airport Extreme = I think is 802.11g.
As long as the card you get is apple compatible, like some type of USB card (look on the back of the box) then you should be able to use wireless + any type of wireless accesspoint or wireless router.
Good luck.

We'll definitely skate one of these days. I've just been skating Berkeley 'cause it's so close and it's lit up 'till 9:30. It's tougher to skate with the rain and all though .

the cool thing about the airport extreme base station is
a) has a port for directional and omni directional antennas
b) has POE (power over Ethernet. You can link multiple base stations with only a Ethernet cable and it will be powered through it. As long as you have a POE device in the chain)
c) has a built in modem. So when your out of the house on vacation, you can call your house with your laptops modem, have your base station pick it up, and log you into your home DSL service. Yeah its only dialup speed, but you don’t have to pay for a $10 dialup account every month.
None of the G5 towers have ever come with an Airport card installed. Its always been a CTO option.
The white/beige 2Wire home portal everyone has been talking about, and any other wireless router will have a WEP barcode on the bottom of it.
If you have to buy a wireless router, please do not buy 2wire products. They are lame. Go with a Lynksys or Netgear, or last but not least a D-Link. (I buy my equipment in this order). Im a PC tech, I deal with this crap every single day, you can trust me
No really, you can. Honest.
