Wireless internet/router question
I have a Mac G5 computer with comcast hi speed internet. My roomate has a labtop computer that picks up a neighbors internet signal....but its very slow.
What kind of router should I get so that her pc labtop can pick up a good signal?
Airport? I dunno, help me out!

you need to figure out what 802.11 standard your neighbors router is. Most likely it's an 802.11b or g, which is either 2.4ghz or.. yeah..
tell your room mate to get an OrINCO GOLD card w/ an external antenna of 12+dbi gain..
ur roomie should be able to get "very good" signal strength
to find out what router they are using do the following
click START then RUN
then CMD
then type ipconfig
where u see the DEFAULT GATEWAY
that is the routers IP address
type http://routerip in ur internet explorer
for USER type admin
password type password
try different combos
then at the home screen for the router you'll be able to tell manufacturer

I.. didn't understand what u meant now i think i do.
Get a Cisco Aeronet (sp) router
u can find em on Ebay for cheap
whats nice is that you plug the rj45 cable from the modem to the router, then a cable from the router to your PC and provide wi-fi to ur room mate at good signal
as soon as u get a router make sure to secure it
by turning of incoming pings
WPA encryption
etc etc..
or else s0m3 1 like me will h4x0r it and st34l all j0r m3g4h3rtz

Wireless routers use universall standards that will work with macs and windows. You can buy anything from linksys, Apple or many other vendors. I have a lot of experience with both Linksys and Airport. As a Mac user and novice network technician I would recommend either of the Airport devices.
PM me if you need help.

If your G5 has an Airport card you can setup a wireless internet using the Mac.
With the Mac connected to the cable modem (or whatever) open System Preferences.
Select Sharing.
"Share your connection from:" select Built-in Ethernet.
In the section "To computers using" select Airport.
Click "Airport Options". You can set the network name here and password information.
Click OK.
Click the Start button.
Some experimentation should get it working properly.
Your Mac will need to be turned on for this to work. Should work if the Mac is sleeping except hard drive sleep.
