I go to Best Image San Mateo
5% All Around
50% Windshield
Will be adding 20% more to the back whenever, used to be 18% over 5% when I had my truck.
Is it safe too tint the front so dark? the issue is, im still under my parents insurance, and im worried tint laws will screw me over. I made a firm confirmation that 1 ticket or pull-over by cops and im done for untill I FULLY pay for my own car insurance, since right now i'm only paying about 1/8th of it.
BTW, does anyone have some insight about the 5% tint at night? I dont want to blind my self with a too dark of a tint and cause a collision.
I am thinking around 70%front (max in CA), and 20% rear, at the moment.
I don't have an issue but I've been driving with 5% or darker for almost 5 years. 70% is glass, you cannot add anything to it. 70% tint is 70% visibility of 70% do the math.
50% barely looks tinted over windows.
That would not be the truth. Cops LOVE to make money off of tint, you may have been lucky. I get popped for tint once a year, when I am not on the coastside usually. But I know plenty of people who get ticketed once a month with anywhere from 35% to double 5% More likely to get pulled over for tint than smoked taillight as along as the red is visible.
I'm probably only a couple years older than the OP
The thing about 35% why get pulled over for something lighter when you're gonna get popped for it anyways.
35% looking out doesn't seem like there's much and same from the outside pretty bare. I live in a non lit area, I do have to roll my windows down to pull out of my driveway but that is because it's a 2 wheeler in and out. Do you want concealment or just added looks. I personally think 5% is too visible inward when any light is added to the atmosphere, I dont like it when my backpack in the rear seat is clearly in sight.

70% front looks like its untinted, might as well save your money and not tint at that point. 20% rear will be ok. Tint shouldnt really blind you if the cars around you have their lights on. If youre concerned you can always go LED bulbs to compensate lol. Tint is what you want it to be. If you want, you can check out the tint on my cars this sunday lol. I am having a mini car meet/parts swap at my house :-)
Its REALLY rare that you'll get busted for tint though. The only time i've ever known people getting busted for window tint in the front windows is because they have already been busted for too loud an exhaust or other "illegal" mods like black taillights (and i mean black not smoked).

I've heard great things about him. He used to do some tinting out of his garage - I live right around the corner from him lol. It seems like he's working out of his business location now, since I haven't seen many cars come by his house as of lately. He quoted me $160 to do my Coupe two months ago...which reminds me - I need to get my tint done before it gets hot out!
and FYI: searching does show up a lot of threads... I used it in order to find this place as well as other business' that people have mentioned in the past.

Anyways, I was just looking at Best Image, how did you like that spot?

Well, I did go search, but a lot of the window tinting threads were not that greatly detailed, also, the locations posted were more east/north bay

Uhm I've been going there since high school, know most of the guys there, I got my job done for 200$ total. It really depends, quality I would say Omega would be the highest but it's personal preference too. My theory why go light if it's trouble anyways. Oh and that windshield tinting makes a HUGE difference driving in sunlight and on coming traffic. There's a few pics up of my car you can see how dark it is. But when you're next to it, you can see what's in the car, that's what bothers me the most.

I see. Guess ill be making a lot of calls tomorrow.
Yea, id like the Tint for a safely benefit, because many times ive been blinded by the sun or headlights at night.
But wow even 5%?? thats pretty crazy. Guess ill just lay off the dark and go a bit light since it seems to not matter if you can see through at 5%.

If you get pulled over don't say its for a safety benefit, LEOs will throw a ***** fit. Well maybe my eyes are trained to see through 5% but it's not dark enough for me lol. Ask anyone here that knows my car, they'll probably say they can't see jack ****.

Oh haha, yea because I was questioning that 5% because when I see a limo even at noon, you cant see shizzzz!
Hmm im thinking.. I know some people have "eye" issues and must have some form of protection from the sun.. Ill go read on that! and if it does work I might be the next person in line at the docs office.
Edit: guess its not worth it..

Mr. Tint in San Jose off Stevens creek and Kiely Rd. Have taken all my cars there including friends family etc. lifetime warranty, laser cut from computer. I went 4% back and 18 or 20% up front. Can't see **** when backing out my driveway at night but goddamn does it look sexy as hell in the day

Computerized Tinting
I opted for the Llumar ATC which cost $40 than the basic tint and I'm super satisfied by the shop's workmanship. I have 35% Front and 15% Rear. It looks perfect although I am worried the front may be a little too dark and I'm gonna get blurped. The tint is cut by machine just like the name of the shop suggests but if you opt for the Llumar like I did he cuts the tint all the way to the top instead of leaving an untinted gap. Oh yeah, lifetime warranty too.

Had best image at San Mateo do 50%front and 20% rears on my previous car. Price was very good, but the rear window had quite a few bubbles. They have lifetime warranty, so I'm sure they'd fix it had I made the time to bring it there.
On my current car, had Vince at omega do 15% ceramic all around. Much more expensive and took much longer - but that was because Vince saw dirt got in the rear glass and he took the time to undo half the tint, clean it, then redo the tint. Judging on how he did the clear bra on my other car a few years ago, I'd be surprised to see any imperfections with my tint.
On the topic of darkness, 50% doesn't seem like there's any tiny there, at all. 35% is noticeable, but my gf never got ticketed for it for the past 7yrs. 15% is definitely dark for my taste, but not enough to have any problems driving at night. Parking in an unlit area needs a little getting used to.

^How is Computer laser cutting? I've read that its not worth doing because the machine never cuts it correctly, because its programmed not too, so im better to go to someone who does it the old school method.
Lol im sure it does look sweet during the day with a dark tint. Im wanting a dark enough tint to look stealthy.
I think im opting to go to Best Image although there seem to be better places. mainly for the cost factor.
I may just use a 50% front if the price difference isnt too severe.

Save any time and effort. Vince @ Omega did my car and GFs (when my GF had some **** person do it last time). Cleaned it all up, put on the thick coating. Charges some, but I wouldn't care, pay for a clean car, you'll get one. He takes his time though, so just think about leaving your car there for the whole day. He's usually backed up, and many others end up adding on to their cars, like a clear bra, etc. He also fixes anything that's wrong.
I'll always go to him unless there is some ridiculous reason or prices shoot too high =P. Had my tint for 10years, still as clean as day 1.
