Window Tinting
Hey guys,
So I'm finally getting my windows tinted next Tuesday at Rocky Mountain Window Tinting in livermore ca. I've never had windows tinted before so the guy asked me what I wanted, and I said the legal tint and he told me it would just be the back 3 BUT alot of people go ahead and get full tints anyways, except for the front windshield.
What are your guys' experience with tinting? What do you guys recommend? I don't want flat black tint and get pulled over for that, I want a nice smoky tint, but i need your guys' advice on it. Which windows should I get done so I don't get hasseled much from cops?
Thanks!

3 back windows = 100% legal.
Anything on the front windows = fair game depending on the cop.
I got pulled over for no front license plate, then dinged for just a very light blue tint on the front driver/passenger windows in downtown SJ.

When they're talking about the 3 back windows, are they talking about the rear left drivers side window, rear windshield and rear right passenger side window?
Because all I was thinking of doing was very light tint for the front driver and front passenger window, definitely leave front windshield as is, and then smoke even dark the rear left drivers side rear right passenger side and rear windshield

driver and shotgun windows CANNOT be tinted except for clear UV protection tint. having those 2 windows tinted is illegal... but I miss the days before I took it off cuz of Rossette and the feeling that ur inside a room and private, as well as cooler seats in the summer.
If you wear glasses and need darker lenses or lenses that get darker, then that might be an excuse to have front window tint... but you'll need your optometrist to hook it up =D

ive had my windows tinted all the way around (except the windshield) since the second day ive bought my car in 2004 with no trouble so far, i have 5% on the back three windows and 50% on the front two (passenger, and driver) looks good but i know its just time, the reason i went so dark in the back was for my son... looks good too...

yeah if you want 0% hassles, the only honest answer is tint the back three windows.
Personally, i went with medium tint on the 3 rears and light tint on the front two, windshield untouched.
have no idea how tint %s work, but i'm guessing the rating talks about light transferance, so maybe mine was 60% rears/80% fronts.
had limo tint on my car before and it just totally kills my night vision. if you like driving at night, definitely DON'T get the limo tint for the rears...

I've had my last car and my current suby tinted all the way around. The pics below have 30% tint all the way around (done by Vince @ Omega Tintwerkz). I had a 5" - 5% visor strip tint on the front windshield also but had to have the glass replaced this winter cause of a big crack I ended up getting. Depending on the tint material, 35% is still fairly light where cops don't give you a second look where as the 30% I got is a little darker than I was expecting but I love the look of the darker tint.
If you want no hassle from the cops, either go with 50% or higher on the front windows or none at all.
This one with front windows down to kind of show you what it looked like before the tint:

I've got 5% on the rear windshield, 20% on the back two side door windows, and 35% on the front two windows. Flows very evenly and although at the chp station they pointed it out as illegal, I have yet to be pulled over specifically for them and its been about two years. There is no legal way to tint the fronts, so your pretty much inviting cops to pull you over at will if you do tint them, so think carefully about it.
