Oh, Sapporo-Ya. Man, I used to practically live there haha. Then they started charging $10 for a bowl of miso ramen (deliciously evil miso ramen tho) and even charged me a $1.50 for hot tea, plus the waitresses would hate on me oooooooooh... But yeah, the okonomiyaki there's ok; just a little too thick IMHO. I kinda like okonomiyaki to be thinner and slightly crispy on the edges.
For restaurant okonomiyaki, I go to either Izumiya or Mifune-Don (the one in the Miyako Mall near the $1 store, NOT the one on restaurant row) and order the "Modernyaki". It's a Hiroshima-style dealy, where the base is a thinner okonomiyaki w/ crispy edges, then topped w/ yakisoba, then topped w/ an omlette, okonomi sauce, Kewpie mayo, shaved bonito, pickled ginger, etc. This kinda 3 layer is the minimum needed to be considered Hiroshima-style, but an old college friend of mine from there used to make a 5 layer bad boy hehe. Those 2 places are ok, but I yearn for something even better!
