I used to have ATT&T; for many yrs without any problems.
Then the customer service started to slip.
Then I moved to the boonies and got no reception.
So I changed to Verizon; customer service is so so, but I get coverage at my house and in many places where my ATT friends do not.
Regarding the iPhone:
Just because something's popular, does not make it superior.
If you get the point...

Personally for me (I am a smart phone user) my phone has to be a phone first and foremost then I look for all the bells and whistles to help me with my day to day stuff, if as a phone it is lacking then it's of no use to me as everything else if forced I can get done with my laptop/desktop and a pen and paper.
I think the Android based phones will start to eat at more and more of the market as the software and hardware evolves.

Some of my favorite places to go I would the only carrier that would have service is Att. Like east park resevoir, lake berryessa, isleton just to name a few. It's pretty ****ty when you can use your phone all weekend while your buddies with Att are having no problems. I'm 110% happy with my iPhone and Att.

Verizon will not get the iPhone till they become a world wide company, and that will never happen. Verizon does have phonees that take the sim card but they don't work in many places around the world. They will also have to change every tower they have to support such a phone. Worldwide over 60 million iPhones have been sold and only 13 million droid phone. That alone says something.
Anyway.....I've been one of the lucky few that rarely have problems with AT&T coverage. In places where I normally don't get AT&T (such as my friend's place in San Bruno), my work blackberry (Sprint) saves the day

Yep, I upgraded from my old 3g. They take a $50 deposit, and will call you on the 24th to schedule a time for you to pick it up. I hear that anyone who has a contract ending this year will be allowed to upgrade.

That about hits the nail on the head, the iphone is a pretty slick well marketed fashion statement of a phone hence it's popularity, something else that has aided it's large following to date is also the previous lack of anything that would anywhere near compete with it's feature set and painless use.
