I hate the stupid e-brake trick! Thats one more thing to finesse into the art of driving a stick, then you have to slowly give gas, slowly let off the clutch, AND slowly release the e-brake. That **** made it harder than just knowing where the clutch engages and doing the right **** fast.

I learned on the 98' Outback I used to drive, My Mom tried to teach me first and I just couldn't get it... then my dad taught me and it worked, I picked it up really fast with my dad... then I went on to teach my friend in exchange for some seat time in his WRX! I also taught my little sister in her Honda Civic.

When I bought my SC MR2 I didn't know how to drive stick yet. For my first big drive my Dad put me in the drivers seat & said if you can drive from San Diego to LA & back in traffic you will be able to drive anywhere. I made it up & back just fine & have never owned an automatic since.

self taught at 14. learned on an old vw bug that i "borrowed" from my brother's friend. it was in our driveway and left the keys in case it needed to be moved. i decided to move it...and drive around town with it.
everything was going smooth until i needed to make a 3 pt. turn. i was like, "why won't this thing go into reverse?!" i had no idea that on vw's you needed to push down on the shifter to get into reverse. finally just went up on the curb and sidewalk to turn around.

My friend taught me in his 1998 Ford Explorer Sport around Cal State Hayward at night. After that, I had to figure out the rest in my own car when I got a manual vehicle about a year or so later. Then I had a friend riding shot gun to make sure I'm driving it correctly. LOL. I've had my RS for almost 6 years. Odd thing is that I couldn't drive it to work for a couple weeks after I got it cuz I was still getting the hang of it and I still had my old Integra (which I gave to my sister to learn how to drive on). I remembered when my Integra couldn't start and I had to use the RS. I was chirpin' gears from San Leandro all the way to Alameda.

Alright crazy story here. When I was 17 my friend and I took some shrooms at a concert at shoreline, a lil 420 was involved as well. So at the end of the night my friend was too messed up to drive. So I had to drive his corolla all the way to milpitas. Thats the first time I learned to drive stick and I did get us home safely!
