+1 for shimo. i believe they also have another location on taravel and 17th or 18th near the safeway. ebisu is always pack and they are pretty expensive.
yum yum fish on irving is a good cheap place, but not really a dine in place. it's more of a fish market that also serves sushi. i would stay away from kiki and kitaro. i have never had a california roll as bad as their's before.
there this place on polk and california, across the street from walgreens i think. on wed and sun, they have all you can eat sushi. they have a menu of stuff that you can choose from. i had 3 spicy tuna hand rolls in one night. pretty fresh fish, it's about 25 bucks a person. don't know if they still offer it.

Ace Wasabi
I can't stress this enough...it's all about Ace Wasabi on Steiner (I think) cross of Lombard.
The best Sushi in town, great music, great staff, great location for barhopping after dinner,...on foot....no driving...plenty of clean hotels to spend the night at too.

Koo on Irving and 6th is pretty good. The chef's actually Japanese unlike 90% of the places in the Bay Area. If you're looking for REAL sushi, like they would serve in Japan, then Ino in Japantown or Sushi-Sho on Solano in Berkeley are your best bets. I've still yet to find a place that serves decent soba or tempura.
