this is kind of random, but they have surplus military stores... anywhere you'd find an autheric flame resistant suit like http://www.hancockcollege.edu/ahc%20...%20Academy.jpg
Yes, I want it for halloween. Yes, I will probably pass out trying to go clubbing wearing that sh.it, but chicks probably have hypothermia problems walking around SF wearing only a piece of masking tape over their nipples, and I always thought it would cool to own a flame resistant suit, so why not...

I'm planning to go to St. Francis this saturday (and castro if it is on this year) if any BAIC folks are http://www.elementsf.com/
I went last year as a ghostbuster, this event is pretty sweet as far as Asian thrown parties go, you can check out the gallery from last year's event.

I would think a real deal firefighter suit suit might be a little expensive. Like in the $1k IIRC. Does it need to be authentic, or do you just want it to look better then a $50 costume?

even fake pre-packaged costumes are $50 so goodluck.
They want $50 for a cheap sombrero, pancho and fake mustache. Who would buy this?
get a girl to go ask a fire dept for you, that will help

Yeah... I've got my motorcycle pants that are kevlar, think I might just get red suspenders and strap on those highlight green reflectors on the pant leg. I guess a mesh motorcycle jacket can kinda pass for a firefighter's.
just need to figure out how to make a scuba tank that doesn't look gay (IE a 2 liter coke bottle) lol
maybe I'll give a shot at asking a couple firefighter buddies I've got - I just feel bad asking them cause I mean, they actually need it to put out the fires drunk people are sure to light on Halloween

Not all firefighters use breathing systems. Only when the smoke is bad, and they have to go in. You *could* get away without the breathers.
Otherwise, head back to the army surplus store and look for a gas mask, as opposed to a scuba like setup.

i've done this one a few years back, a pair of thick ripstop type fabric khaki type pants ( I used snowboard pants and something like a pair of sweats underneath to give it that bulky look) + a rim of duct tape on the legs and with two rims of yellow electrical tape flanking it turned out really well and really cheap without looking tacky like those in the link (the one costume is pretty nice but whos gonna pay 110 bucks for a costume) add red suspenders + boots + navy blue firefighter tshirt and a fire helmet (borrowed one or you can just buy a cheap one) and you're set for pratically nothing cost wise. Hey if it doesn't look authentic you can just say you dressed as a stripper for halloween.
