dude the best place to go is the BELL warehouse in oakland, try them and they usually have blemmed (just the paint) helmets for cheap. I bought mine their and they were very nice.

SA2005 will cover just about anything you want to do for the next year or two, at least until the next SA standard is issued, then for most events you typically have a year or two grace before you need to go out and buy a new one.

Different sanctioning bodies have different tech requirements and time limitations for helmet certification.
The most lax will probably be about 10 years as some of you suggest, maybe even 15, but some will certainly be stricter.
It is a good idea to read and review the rules for any race organization you want to play with.

They are not current models if they even are SA rated- I asked Shoei and just got an answer today;
