oh ya mike, a some tips before you go to the Yay for the weekend..

-Don't say "Frisco". Only noobs and out of towners say that. SF is acceptable and so is "The City".

-Don't put "the" in front of highways.

Acceptable: 880, 680, 101, 580

Unacceptable: Thuh 880, the 680, tha 101, the 580

-It is ok to say hella. You know you want to say it.

-Fremont has a LOT of traffic cameras. So does UC now. If fremont still has **** cops that pull you over for a louder than normal exhaust, i won't be surprised...

my bad....palomino is a restaurant. i've been there in fact....imo, overrated but a lot of folks, incl my mom like it.

anyways, not sure how i got the 2 mixed up, but the argent is other boutique hotel i meant to suggest. it's not as hyped up as other downtown spots, but it's a very nice place. i've sent a lot of out of towners over there, and they've all been pleased. you might catch a few celebs here and there too.

I currently work a block away from the Le Meridien and was part of the opening team when it opened as the Park Hyatt in 1989.

Pluses:
smaller (360 rooms) more initimate feeling
great personal service
nice lounge/bar area (drinks $$$, though)
rooms are nice (ask for the 18/19 rooms, they have a partial view of the bay bridge)
nice room service menu

Minuses:
off the beaten path; not alot happening in the area (walking)

I'm biased, between the Palace, Fairmont and Le Meridien I'd choose Le Meridien. It's all personal preference.

Have fun either way.

the parking at the nice hotels near union square cost $45+ a night. I'd be surprised if the fairmont were any different.
