I have WAMU and have been pleased with it. Citi is huge pain in the ***, at a prior job I had to pay a lot of mortgages through them and they would never let me just pay them without trying to sell me on a checking/savings/other type of account, it was reeealllly irritating....

Exchange Bank in Sonoma County is also pretty good.

It was definitely dumb of me to deposit so much cash in the ATM. It was Wells' treatment of me after the fact that really pissed me off though. They acted like I was trying to rip them off, but after it was discovered that one of their own had committed the douchebaggery (I assume), I received no apology whatsoever. Anyway, I'm thankful that I don't have to deal with them anymore.

I've been tempted to do that when I need like $10 cash, just take out $20, use what I need, deposit the rest again

Honestly, most major banks are going to offer the same services. I work for Wells but I also have accounts at BofA and a credit union. You honestly have to go with what is convenient to you. Of course credit unions and online banks (ING, Etrade, etc.) will for the most part offer better rates, but big banks such as Citi, BofA, Wamu, and Wells are all going to offer similiar rates and services.

Fees are pretty standard for most banks. People always complain about overdraft fees and crap, but most banks are the same. Here's a hint to everyone. If you have a fee on your account, try to resolve it in a decent amount of time and not wait 3+ months later. Also, especially if it's your fault, don't ***** it cause that person is most likely not going to reverse it for you. If anything, hang up and call back. Works everytime for me at the other banks I bank at.

BofA - convenient all over US
Wells - Convenient in Western states (especially in the Bay area)
Wamu - Overall least amount of fees, but not too many locations in the Bay
Citi - not too many locations, but located all over the world

Like i said, go with what is convenient for you or closest to your home/work.

i bank at wamu..but i work for citibank atm processing center. you would be surprised at what ppl put into the atms, 2 dollars isnt bad..sometimes we get quarters nickles dimes and pennies..change is the more annoying part. i once processed 1 dollar and 73 cents inside a zip lock bag that i assume had cookies in it because of the crums and greese in the bag..some ppl dont trust our envelopes i guess...

Is there banking all online and over the phone? Don't you ever need to go into a physical location to do some of your banking? I ask becuase i'm thinking about switching over to them

Good stuff. If you have any connections to the military, USAA is the only way to go for banking and car insurance.

i have BofA and Mechanics Bank. Mechanics bank is mostly and east bay bank but offer great services and friendly service. reversal of atm fees makes the lack of locations worth it.

bofa bites hard....but i need a bank that i can access often no matter where i am. i keep these accounts simply for the avail of the banks.

bank of the west i left just because i got tired of not finding any around.

wells... can bite me. the screwed me on money market account that i tried to close....cause they were being boogers

Remember, you're dealing with people too, so when you want to have fees reversed, the nicer you are, the more willing they are to take care of you...don't come off like a **** because that's when bankers tell you to take a hike.
