Well here's my story. I was big into the whole Amsoil thing a while back. I used their engine oil plus their dual bypass filter this was supposed to enable you to run like 25K or something without having to change the oil. I swapped filters added oil on a regular basis and at 27k miles I spun a rod bearing. I nothing done to the car. I also put their syn gear lube into the tranny. The tranny went out at 30K miles. Their foam air filter caused a 20whp decrease over a stock paper filter. My experience has been less than pleasant. I was registered at one time to distribute their products needless to say I have no more interest.

I would call Blackstone and see what they recommend for oil, they test about 1000 samples a day.

FWIW I did and they recommended Total (Elf brand) oils which Benny at Lubrify.com also sell.

our motors go through almost a quart of oil in 3k miles. And if you have a built motor it'll burn even more.

To each his own. I just get the cheap stuff and change it every 1.5-2k miles.

Although I'm thinking about using amsoil now cause with their $20/year membership, amsoil is the same price as mobil 1, and only a little bit more expensive than walmart synthetic

Winchester Auto has it, I just bought it today too, haha. They sell it for 10.95 a quart.

Are you kidding me?

On AMS Oil's website it even states for Subaru turbo engines have to change at Subaru's recommened intervals, which is 3750 miles. Motul, AMS, Mobil 1, Redline, Purp... due to an oil pickup screen clogging.

Yeah, bypass, whatever...still not a smart move. And did you blow the tranny using the Severe Gear?

Foam Air Filter?! Come on man Totally stock w/ stock tune would run best on stock parts, IMO.

I don't kid anyone.... I never ran extended drain intervals. Yes tranny went on severe gear. Yes a foam air filter. How the hell would one know that it would decrease the performance that much without trying it. IMO your opinion doesn't matter. Because you haven't tried anything.

Ha, try again buddy. I run AMS Oil 5W-30 and Severe Gear. Nice to blame the oil on your mishaps though.

My Vin and build date landed smack in the middle of the knock of death. Out of everyone that has reported thier 09 WRX Spun Rod Bearing issue, I lasted the longest (highest mileage) before my spun rod bearing and was the only one to run AMSOil starting at 1000 miles.

I think it might also be called "First in Synthetics."

I'm not blaming the oil. That's a cop out. I'm certainly not going to sit here and say that the oil provided better protection than other brands. I'm certainly not going to use phrasing like "everyone, longest, only" when trying to justify Amsoil superior protection. Especially in your context. If you spun a rod bearing there could be any number of things that are wrong one of which could be your choice in motor oil. I had the same thing. Amsoil starting at 1K and my rod bearing spun at 27K. Your argument is pretty weak dude. It sounds like this, "Yeah my motor blew, but if it wasn't for the Amsoil it would have blown a lot sooner" That's a pretty retarded argument.

What was the exact AMS oil you were running 0W, 5W, 10W?
