Where can I get access to a sandblaster? (for wheel paint removal)
So I got a set of 00RS wheels that I painted gunmetal a few weeks back.
I prepped them, primered, painted and clearcoated them with the Duplicolor wheel products they have at Kragen. Well they came out looking better than I thought. It had been over a week since the final coat that I finally went ahead and mounted one of the wheels on the car to see how it looked.
Unfortunatley the paint easily chipped away in the areas where they lugnuts came in contact with the wheel, I expected something like that to happen but wasn't too thrilled. So I mounted the wheel then the wrench slipped out of my hand and tapped the wheel slightly. This made another chip on the wheel... and judging how hard the wrench hit the wheel, this paint really won't be able to stand up to much road debris / rocks / pebbles... I'm dissapointed how paint made for wheels is not nearly as durable as it should be.
Anyways long story short, I want to use a sandblaster to remove the paint and start over again or I might just take the wheels to Wheel Techniques and get them done up in Anthracite. Anybody use one at their job or know where I can go to have use of one for a while??

call up various machine shops. dont know if they have self service (looks like that's what you are looking for).
also, maybe welding places?
if not, how about one of those long bristle brush attachments you can put on a drill...

Hmm, yea I'd like to avoid using a brush on the wheels.
I used to have a sandblaster at my sculpture class but its only set up so you can blast off small objects inside a metal box... no way I'd be able to fit a wheel in there lol.
I'll probably just have to ask around, thought I would check here first though.

Use Aircraft Stripper. Available at the parts store, and if you follow the directions EXACTLY it'll work like a champ.
A couple of cans should be enough for 4 wheels.

Or just any auto supply place will have it?
