where can I donate my old books in the bay area?

Hello,

As some of you know, my wife and I are moving into our first home (yay! we're really excited about our new home!!!) and thus we have a truckload of things to get rid of, and that includes all my (and my wife's) old books. We have A LOT of old books, and REALLY good books like documentary/instructional/history/SciFi/SciFi-Romance (thanks wife, lol). Well, all but the last category are good and valuable books. These are books that my wife and I have collected all through college that we've used to better our understanding of the subject that we were taking, so they aren't your basic reading materials, like novels that you'd buy for $6 at the grocery store... These are $100 books, mainly on art, art history, science, and history in general (art stuff is hers, science and history are mine)

Is there a place that we could donate these and get a tax refund slip for? Kinda like the GoodWill where you donate your stuff and they give you a receipt for what the stuff was worth (for what they calculated that your stuff was worth)? I figure if we're going to give away such valuable books we might as well get a tax refund for them.

So, anyone know of a good book donation site in the bay are that will give us a tax write off slip for? I'm sure there is a good book specific donation spot that would be better than the old goodwill... All help is appreciated.

A local high/middle school would be the best place to donate them to but the tax refund slip may be hard to get that way. But what History books do you have i might buy some off you if want to sell them.

Yeah best bet is a school. They are always in need since they go through so many budget cuts.

Check with your local public library. I'd just donated several groceries bags full of books to them; they gave me a receipt for tax deduction purposes.
