Whats the widest i can go on stock 04 sti bbs 17x7.5
Im looking to buy a new set of tires since the ones im on now are looking like im on slicks. So i wanted to get wider tires to put on my stock 04 sti bbs rims but i am not sure what the widest i can fit on the rims or if i can go any wider. i wanted to put 245's but was told that they wouldnt fit so i was wondering if i could put 235's. any info would be appreciated. TIA!

At www.tirerack.com when you look up the specs on a tire, it gives a figure for "Rim width range" - you can probably use that as a guideline.
For instance:
Potenza RE050
245/40/17 = 8.0-9.5" range
245/45/17 = 7.5-9.0" range
Tirerack says it's possible to go outside those ranges, but "staying within the approved rim width range helps assure that the tire's internal stresses are within its design parameters."

On a 7.5, I would agree 235 being optimal
245s will fit, but you may get a lot of sidewall bulge/slop
I have a sweet set of 235/45/17 Advan A046s FS in the classified section BTW
