I want an MP3 player for the slopes but something that has at least 1 gig and can be banged around a bit, hence no hard drives.

You can. Get a cheap MPIO. They take SD cards. MPIO (1gig), Sandisk (1gig) and Rio (5gigs) all have one, Homer.

+1 iPod's suck, anyway. The "mini" isn't very mini. It's like half an inch smaller then the normal ones and 1/4 the capacity. Ghey.

creative mp3 players

creative has a new muvo micro w/ 1gb capacity:
http://creative.com/products/product...&product=10737
haven't used one so i dunno how it fairs.

then theres the muvo tx FM:
http://creative.com/products/product...5&product=9771

i have the muvo tx FM 512mb version. its a small simple player. it comes with FM dont expect constantly great reception from it indoors. i wish they could expand the folder capability a bit more. as it is now, you can only have files in the root directory and 1 level after. theres also a high-pitched whine whenever the backlight of the LCD goes off but that might be due to my cheap headphones. luckily you can turn off/on the backlight feature.

there are strong rumors that apple is releasing an ipod flash player sometime next year. its supposed to be announced at mac world in january.

Yeah, but you have to listen to mattress ads half the time, and as soon as you go over a hill you need to find another station.
