What's the best high-speed internet access?

Well I am completely tired of dial-up, and can somewhat afford a high-speed internet connection. I am probably going to go with SBC DSL since it's pretty cheap ($30 a month, hardware is free), but I want to know if anybody has any expirience with SBC DSL. I can't do comcast internet because it is not available in my area, which is cool cause I hate those bastards.

I'm also curious as to what people are paying for a cable connection. My friend has it and pays $45 a month, which is still a bit high for my cheap ***.

(For what it's worth i did search and didn't find many threads)

So what are the best high speed connections that don't cost too much?

Cable... It's reliable and fast... Ive had issues with DSL being slower, and not as reliable.

Your upload speed will probably be faster with DSL though... but I never upload anything, so I dont care.

PS: $50 a month

I had SBC DSL for about 2 yrs... paid $50 per mo. for 1.5 Mbps down/120k up. It would go down maybe once per month for a few hours...

Now I'm using Comcast cable and pay $45/mo for 3-4Mbps down/250k up.... it's gone down maybe once per 6 mo. I also had a 6 mo promotion before, $20/per mo..

Well comcast cable sounds pretty sweet, too bad I can't get it

I also looked up getting high-speed internet through a satellite dish, but the hardware costs were $600, and the monthly cost was $60, so forget that.

Thanks for the suggetions.

I was an SBC DSL subscriber for 5 years near Berkeley, and service had been exceptional except the first couple of months after installation. I use comcast cable now at San Mateo, and it's faster (370kb/s|33kb/s down|up) and just as reliable. But I imagine quality is highly dependent on location... ask your neighbors!

I've been using dslextreme for the past year and it's been good. I recently upgraded to 1.5/3 M downl and 384kbit up paying $43/month. That's with a yearly contract, but the month to month is a few bucks more. The slower services are cheaper though. Customer service is excellent, 24hours. If you need static IP's, they're only charging $2 per extra IP.

comcast was good when I had it. only thing I didn't like was constant price increases. move to Sacramento and get Surewest Broadband FIBER. It's capt. insano fast.

Bump, I'm retarded, and I forgot about this thread. I still use dial-up and it's driving me nuts, and I must start downloading trance.

Any new opinions for high-speed internet that is cheap?

I'm still looking at SBC DSL, being that it is $15 a month for 1.5 mbps. But they also sell a "pro package" that get's up to 3 mbps. How consistant is SBC DSL as far as speed?

Any other good providers around $30 a month?
