what would be a typical commision percentage?
I have never worked in retail or sales before so I have no idea. But what would be a typical percentage for commision for selling products that range from $50 - $150?

but that is with base pay right? What about those without base pay and on pure commision?

commission is based on the type of item being sold and if they get a base or hourly pay, there will be a quota.
I worked in retail during college and sold ladies shoes. my hourly rate was ~$8/hr + a commission of 9% on anything over a quota of $100/hr. Working part time I made about $18/hr not bad considering this was in 1993.
Ladies shoes is the one of the highest commission departments if not the highest in a store.

Sorry - I couldn't help it when I saw software engineer - It's the recruiter in me.
To address your question I believe it would depend heavily on what you are selling, the mark-up, how much sales pressure needed to sell the product and the overall compensation plan.
For instance - At Good Guys you make really good commission selling speakers (high markup) but almost nothing for a portable cd player (low markup.) I don't know any retail positions that are 100% commission but I have a friend who sells vacation packages at 100% commission and makes 5% commission on total revenue. Recruiters/mortgage/real estate people at 100% commission make closer to 50%+.
If you are looking for a salary range/commission structure for a specific position then maybe I can give you more detail.
