What is the real speed limit on 101?

I moved back to SF in June after a year away, and noticed cars going faster on 101. Now, I'm regularly going 75. Did anybody notice this trend? Or was it my switch from Accord to Wrx in the meantime?

did you have bigger/smaller tires than oem? that could throw off your speedo.

of course if you have an STi, your speedo is -4mph over 50 mph to begin with...

I see the signs that say 101, I figure that's fast enough for public roads, so I rarely speed on that one.

isn't it the speed posted it only 80% of the actual speed that it's rated to be safe at?

there is an engineering survay in the local traffic court that has the actual 'safe' speed limit. If you get a ticket that is above the posted speed limited but lower than the engineering survay, you are okay. OR, if the survay is more than 10 years old or something, you can get off the ticket simply by presenting the survay, which is available for public access.

The design speed depends on the traffic index, from what i've seen most city roads are like 7.5mph over the posted, and freeways and expressways are like 10mph. Of course the traffic changes and a lot of them aren't up to date as posted above.

In my estimation the speed limit on 101 varies from 55-80, depending on the asshat factor. I've been stuck on that damn road behind a wall of four cars doing 55 for miles.

Talking Where on 101?

There are places on the rural parts where Porsche Boxsters meet their speed limiter as the Forester speeds past...

101 is 65 except for the part by vermont exit and the split to civic center/4th, etc... there it's 50/55....
