I think doing your own oil change is fine with the warranty. It's like going to a (name brand) oil change center as opposed to going to a Subaru dealership.
Plus oil change centers rip you off when you buy their synthetic or high mileage oil!

Mobil 1 5W-30, but I live in very cold weather so I need to use it, I might switch back to 10W-30 when I get back to the bay, but I doubt it.

they cannot void your warranty. just deny the claims.

but remember the magnusson-moss act where it somewhat states, unless they provide the part (or service) for free, that cannot be used to deny claims.

in other words, if SOA gives out free oil changes and you get your oil change somewhere else and they screw something up in the engine, SOA will deny your warranty claim.

here's something:

I might be a little different then u guys, but I been using Castrol 5W-30 full syn, works great...

but if u are in cali... there is no need to be using different grade like 10W-40 or so... even tho is the same price, but the weather is not cold enought to go that far yet... so don't worry about it, and just use the grade that print on the car... or else ur car will start losing the mileage. at least 20-30 less per tank... i tried it before...tehee...

not cold enough???

10W40 is thicker than 5W30...you must have meant it doesn't get too hot....

FYI I got better mileage with thicker viscosity redline than with stock oil.
