DIY? Myself and a buddy did the clutch in the wrx back in the day on the garage floor. Not the most fun, but doable.

Where's it coming out of? Only power and ground, but looks OEM and looks watertight.

A rat attacked the outback and was nice enough to put that into its little nest, currently the car won't turn over so its eaten something. Was thinking of sending it to a place in san jose. Sigh.

I might check things coming from the fuse box, maybe the starter. Wire seems too small to be alternator related.

That sucks. No idea why they chew that stuff. The squirrels used to chew anything that was plastic/rubber at my place up north too. Little bastards.

Not sure where you are? Had an electrical issue with my old GF8 and took it to Garage one. They were able to troubleshoot it and fix it. Other thought would maybe be to just get harnesses off a wrecked one.

Thanks, I'm in east bay pleasant hill area but I do have the triple a 100 mi tow or whatever it is. I heard insurance could cover it but I'm not sure which route is smarter

Well, once it is at a shop, it will cost you to fix it either way. Electrical can get expensive, so I would probably run it by insurance first. They may want you to get it to a dealer, not a 3rd party shop or something like that.
