Weird sound at 130 mph?

Weird sound at 130 mph?
So I was toppin' out late last night on the fwy (with no traffic) , on a downhill grade, and as I started to crest over 130 mph, I heard this funny drone starting to come from the engine compartment...like maybe the fuel or ignition was being cut or a governor was kicking in...
As I slowed down to 120 mph, the sound went away and then came back as I went over 130 again...In the past I was only able to hit 125 mph on the flats so this is a new top speed for my WRX.
I'm trying to figure out what that sound was, maybe a speed governor?
Does anybody know if an '02 WRX has an electronically limited top speed?
If so, is it possible to bypass?

mirrors... ever notice your passenger side windshield wiper bounces (when engaged) over 115 mph... now i know the reason for "aero" windshield wipers
