Water conservation idea: get rid of front lawns

It's an out dated American tradition and no one uses them any more.

If we all got rid of our front lawns (and found some acceptable replacement... indigenous bushes, trees, etc that would not require frequent watering) that would be a huge savings there.

Why can't we do it?

honestly, if it wasn't for HOAs and such, I'd definitely prefer all concrete. and install a lift or two in the back.

...not that i own a home or anything =(

The concern I have with artificial lawns is that they will need to be replaced every couple of years. They'll look good at first, and then go to crap as it ages and dogs crap on it.
