Off topic but how do you like the 245's on the 8in wheel? Do they rub or stretch too much? I currently have 225/45 on 17x8's and only considered 235's as my next set.

i had 235/40 s.drive on 17x7.5 rotas and they fit square and had no problems with rubbing on stock suspension

Any lower and you are gonna:
1) Run out of bump travel in your stock struts. This is bad in terms of comfort and safety.
2) Have lots of bump steer. This is also bad for comfort and safety.

With coils you can address #1. With lowering plates you can address #1. With a bump steer correction kit you can help with #2...but there is only so much it will do.

your asking about bigger than the 45 series tire. You do realize that the series number is just a percentage of the width of the tire right? So when hwob90 was recommending the 245/45/17, that will infact be a bigger sidewall, allthough it has the same series number (45) it will infact be a bigger sidewall because the width (245) is bigger than stock, 225. You can throw what ever size tire you want on there just realize that it's going to throw off you speedometer. You could go with a 50 series or 55 series, its up to you. Your car, do what you wanna do. I'd personaly go with coilovers as you can dail in what ever hight you want down to the mm. The ride will be a whole lot better than riding on springs, or in your case cut drop springs.

Coilovers are the way to go. You can get fairly comfy ones. Trust me, good coilovers actually have a better ride in a way than struts/springs.

Idk anything about lowering plates, but that sounds like they work.

If you're feeling ricey, you can cut your springs. :P

the lowest you can get with springs are with s-tech's and RCE front lowering camber plates. this is what i have right now. ride is a little bumpy. although, i just bought coilovers haha.

I'm glad to see the streets are perfectly smooth somewhere in California. If I went any lower, the tire would be rubbing against the fender liner every time I hit a bump.
