How do you know it's not unmarried? Did he tell you it's not umarried? If that accessport is not your car's year specific, how would you able to tell?

What does it say when you power it up? Does it show what is it's current map?

I wonder why Cobb charges so much, I'm sure it doesn't take $400 labor to plug the thing into one of their computers and reflash the memory on it.

Good luck with this jerk though.
they do it to deter people from buying it, flashing it on their car, selling the unit and the next person having cobb unlock it, flash it to their car, sell it, and so on.

Makes sense, cuz I can totally see someone doing that. Getting theor car souped up a certain way having a pro tune done, then selling it to someone else, then getting the memory cleared and having someone using it, then again, and so on. COBB would lose hella $$$$ that way so yeah man. Even if you have it stolen COBB still makes you buy a new one for a few $$$ less the msrp if you give them a police report

04SubieWRX - When you asked Cobb how much it'd be to reprogram it, did you say it was off of a totalled Suby?

Dumb dumb mistake. But you might just be new.

In reality, your best bet is to just take the $300 hit and buy another legit AP V1 for an 04 WRX and TEST it before you BUY it.

You might be eligible for the Cobb AP Trade in program... which gives you a discount on a new AP. IDK though.

yeah, he could get a $200 discount, which would mean he'd only be out $100

Example:

I bought a used AP V2 from someone here on i-club when I was a n00b. Before dropping the hundreds of dollars I asked many questions, read up as much as I could about AP's, and I made sure to request it be unmarried from the car & paid via PayPal as insurance. Everything worked out fine.

Moral of the story : Always do your homework when buying from an individual online via an unsecured third party.

Hopefully people read the threads like this & the community is better for it.
