Washed the WRX today and had a starting problem!!

As you probably know, the I/C is directly over the engine block.

the sti I/C has a mist sprayer, not a garden hose!

if that was bad.. would it mean we can't drive our cars in the rain?

as for the exhaust... they have drain holes, there is no point trying to stop water getting in there...

its always good to let your fuel pump prime the fuel lines... ( hear a whine at key on, and stops after it's done priming) People who are running the LINK ecu would know about this...

I think it's just because you didn't have the clutch all the way down.. maybe your floor mats were behind the clutch pedal...

that start up problem could have been caused by gunk that has accumulated in your intake and throttle body. I would suggest takinf off the air filter box and running a hose into the intake ducting and turning it on while the motor is on. This will clear up the gunk in the intake nad engine realy fast. Dont worry about breaking the motor its just water it will turn into steam and go away with out hurting a thing!!

this could be it!!! because i do remember adjusting the mats early in the morning because it got caught up ontop of the clutch pedal..hmmm..

i get lots of water in the hood scoop all the time, no starting problems. also i sometimes shoot a lil water in the tip of the exhaust, no problems. sounds like water got onto the alternator...do you have an STI hoodscoop that would allow water to get to the alternator just in front of the intercooler?

Nah, i really doubt it. Think about it, if the hoodscoop was a real problem, or even anywhere *near* a problem to begin with, i'm sure it's a big deal and where subaru would make a recall to cover it up or something . Water gets into the engine all the time during rainy days, so would those certains days stop us from driving the car? I hope not

as far as covering up the exhaust and all the other "safety" precautions people have been doing to their car, i think it's just in their head. More than likely, you just didn't step on the clutch ALL the way to start the car, because as i stated before, since you tried to start the car again, and it started, its probably not anything wrong with the car.
