Warren Hall implosion @ CSUEB | This Saturday, 17 AUG @ 0900 hrs
Anyone planning to witness the demolition of Warren Hall?
This iconic East Bay hills landmark at the university-formerly-known-as-Cal-State-Hayward is scheduled to be demo'd via implosion at approx. 9 a.m. on Sat, Aug 17th.
From Patch article (CSUEB's Warren Hall to be Demolished by Implosion Aug. 17):
"The campus will be closed due to safety considerations. Those wishing to witness the implosion are advised to locate a public place with a clear view of Warren Hall."
Sounds like a fun reason for a meet, eh?

I would totally be there to film it but I'll be up at Pinecrest this weekend.
If theres any DSLR shooters here that want an extra angle of it, pm me today and I can get you set up with my 7D. Already scouted a great location w/ clear visibility that's not on the campus property.
edit: btw, I'll be in Hayward today, might roll up to the campus and take a few pics while its still there.

After seeing that one in the news about 2 weeks ago where observers were standing in the designated safe zone and 12 people were injured by flying debris; including one man losing both legs....NO.

You can see it easily from all over the bay. It's on a hill.
Nearly any 2nd story window in the direct east bay has a view. If you want to be closer, probably some good parking lot would be Kmart on Mission below campus.

Yeah, John, I'm pretty worrisome about being up close cuz of the recent Bakersfield accident. No need for POV pr0n angles for this kinda thing.
I'm more with Gagan's idea of watching from a bit further away. I never really thought about watching it from below. Might be cool esp. since it'll like topple down the hillside rather than collapse onto itself like typical implosion demolitions.

Here's a couple pics I took just a little while ago (iphone). Soo wish I'd be around to film this on Saturday, coulda zoomed in my 7D all the way for some awesome footage! Ah well, gonna miss it...
This is from the cemetery right across the street from the Walgreens on Mission Blvd. in Hayward. By the intersection of Mission & Sorenson Rd.

In January I drove by that PG&E plant in Bakersfield. The article hit home a little more when I saw it. However, up until that article, I probably wouldn't have been too concerned being in a designated safe zone.

Hmmm, wonder if our Owner or his brother would let us use the roof access at one of our dealerships up there?
*FWIW I'll be thinking of someone at the same time who worked there.

How does meeting at McDonald's (26253 Mission Boulevard; Hayward, CA 94544) at 8:00 sound?
Then leave for our viewing spot just down the street about 15 - 20 minutes later?

I'm thinking of just going with this spot suggested in Post #6... But earlier this tonite I talked w/ my ex-housemate who now lives off Mission nearby, and he wants to get a closer look. Depending on how safe a distance the spot he scouts out as I'm heading down, I could go w/ his recommendation.
