I put mine back in today just because I wanted a change from the menacing rumble of my JIC bullet with no cat from the dp back, guess I picked a great day to do so. I have also been stopped with this exhaust with the baffle in and the CHP noticed the exhaust but said it was not loud and didn't harass me one bit about it.

It's kind of nice to hear more of the mechanical and intake noise from the boxer motor, but it will only be so long before I need my rumble back.Sucks that I will have to be even more paranoid to drive with out my baffle.

Basicly what happen was...

I turned into the parking lot at the factory outlets. He saw me turn in. He then whipped around me and flipped his lights on. I pulled over right there. He then asked me nicely to pull into a parking spot. I pointed to a spot then moved.
I shut the car off after parking and put the keys on the dash.
He then came up and asked me for my lic while telling me he only stopped me to check for the sliencer. I said ok... wallet is here I am going to grab it.

After giving my lic he then walked back looked in the pipe and saw the silencer/baffle then said "ok you have one, You might get stopped again today as we have a enforcement team working the area targeting cars with aftermarket exhaust. " Handed back my lic. wished me a nice day and left.

The officer that stopped me was very nice. Very polite I wish I caught his name. I would have sent a nice letter in about how well he handled everything.
By the time I was finished putting my lic away he was gone.

I had just put the silencer back in thursday morning. My JIC Ti system is very loud without it.

Its funny. I have run a 3.5 APS catless for 3 years never a second look. I have been running this JIC for 3 months and get stopped twice. Once without and once now with the silencer.

I think APS has casted a hex on other systems....

Also... I'll take a roadside stop over a ref ticket anyday.

Who ever was getting hit with the DOT truck was getting f..... Those guys dont mess around. They get paid to do inspections all day long. But in the end if you act nice you get nice.

So stay away or watch out on 80 for the next few days......

Oh also.... I am not sporting the full carbon stuff. I have been running a wingless trunk. stock hood, My voltex and apr front lip. I took the stickers off the voltex.

So it was not like my car was standing out. My car is more hidden now then ever. So I guess wingless and carbon doesnt matter.

let me see if i'm getting this.....

melon shooter exhaust WITH a "baffle"/silencer =

not much louder than stock+stock appearing aftermarket exhaust w/OUT a "baffle"/silencer =

basically, you need a "baffle"/silencer on every aftermarket exhaust now?

No, just ones that exceed the 95db limit.

wait i'm confused. from what i am reading, it sounds like you are suppose to have a silencer/baffle? or is it illegal to have a silencer/baffle?

They're profiling cars. Any exhaust is legal as long as it retains a catalytic converter and is under the 95db limit.

Typically, canister exhausts exceed said 95db limit. That is why I<3Subie got pulled over, the cop saw his exhaust, didn't hear it.

Put in a baffle or get a quieter exhaust. Problem solved.

wasn't that always the rule.....aftermarket exhausts must << 95 db.....w/silencers or not??

sorry, i don't get this new baffle/silencer check addendum. seems to me that this just leaves the door open for a lot of misinterpretation+wrongful enforcement/citations by misinformed or overzealous CHP officers...."your exhaust is illegal. it doesn't have a baffle/silencer."

imo, this just removes the burden of making officers claim that exhausts are exceeding the 95 db limit. now they can just issue citations based on a lack of baffles/silencers and let people sort it out w/a judge or ref.

not really, they are still under the same laws that apply to cars for the noise, at my work i get to speak with cops all the time, and friday they told me to stay off the freeways, (880,580,680,1,24,4,5) he said CHP will pull anyone over for any loud exhaust. I have a catted downpipe but no resonators, with a stromung muffler, it's loud but looks stock so just be carefull out there!
