that dell vostro is looking really attractive.
i dont really care about size. big screen is fine. i dont get why smaller screens are more expensive. it makes .5lb difference. but anyhow, my function will just be for college work. typing hw, surfing iclub >=], some games. i play cs and sc once in awhile. i would hate for them to lag.
the lenovo s10 looks good but 1.6ghz is just way too slow. i have no patience. plus 512mb? ... i think the vostro is looking better on this one. however lenovo thinkpad sl series looks good too.

Netbooks are only for simple stuff like web and well... web.
The Dell I posted a link to is light at 5lbs, it'll probably go 3hrs on the battery, and can easily handle some CS play.

i want the 17" MBPro with 8 hour battery and matte screen.
Any good used mac places though? only reason i'd spend $2700 is because of the 180 day 0% financing. But yeah i still think im crazy

you cannot play games on a netbook. even if it was a dual-core Atom processor, it nothing like even a celeron from 4 years ago!

However, CS and SC would work perfectly on the lappy (heck, my P1 200 mhz with 72 mb of ram could play CS and SC).
If you go with the dell, have fun. My laptop came with the mic jack DOA (100% of these laptops were shipped that way and Dell wouldn't fix it under warranty) and built in such a way where the wires leading to the speakers would rip after a little over a year (just out of warranty). If I wanted them fixed, the laptop was built so you have to replace the whole LCD screen just to fix the speakers. I'm never buying a dell ever again.
I honestly haven't seen too many great laptop deals lately, and now is not the best time to buy. Usually late summer, since a lot of new college students get their laptops then, some good sales come around, but I don't know how soon you need it.

If you want a Dell, I think this is a better buy.
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...40&lid=1001006
Faster Front side Bus speed, 3GB RAM, bigger HD for $70 more.
Oh, and yes, 3 hours is about the average if you're not using a lot of processing power. If you get an extended battery, expect around 5 hours.
