Essentially the same thing as pho, except it's the wider white flat rice noodles and it's normally just a clearish broth instead of the beefier, darker pho broth. "Chew jow" is the cuisine style (I forgot which part of China, someone clarify this for me) and "ho fun" (pronounced "hoh-fuhn") is the style of noodles, which is the same kind as the kind found in chow fun. The toppings, vegetable-wise is the same, the meat is usually meat or fish *****, sometimes slices of beef (cooked), and minus the tripe found in pho.

it's not the same thing as pho.... pho is a beef broth... i think chew jow ho fun is a chicken broth... Chew Jow is a provance of china (above canton i think...) ho fun is the type of noodle.

theres a few kinda noodles
"ho fun" is kinda like a wider vernachelli
"mean" is a egg noodle
"cho (emp on the O) mean" is a wider egg noodle... not as wide as ho fun tho....

chew jow ho fun will come with noodles in a broth with chicken beef fish ***** and one or 2 chunks of kidney.

... i always ask for "chew jow fun mean"... that will come with 2 types of noodles

i think the VH in el cerrto is cleanner then the one in oakland... but the oakland one reminds me of a HK noodle house... the lighting, walls and floor and everyone's packed into a somewhat small space... it is poor people food... so yeah... oakland ftw

chew jow ho fun has 2 shrimps, 2 fish *****, 1 meat ball, 2 kidney, a few slices of cha siu(bbq pork but is not red), ground pork, sometimes it will have a few slices of chicken breast. This place is addicting, I eat there every week for the past 15+ years!

VH ftw!

There's plenty of noodle bowls without the adventurous stuff in it. The kidneys are the best part with hoisin and Sriracha!
