Ruth chris is pretty good, but there is a place called millenium in san francisco, i think for v day they have a dinner deal and night in their hotel, or just dinner. Anyway its a sweet place like super nice, not that filling but its good stuff and nicely displayed.

You could always go to the Cliff House for dinner. I've heard the food is so-so but the view is spectacular.

Try Circolo. You can get away a nice meal and a glass of wine for about 20-30 bucks per person.

And yes, Aqua and inexpensive do not go together.

We went there for my senior prom many moons ago. I'm sure the the view would be nice from 50 some odd stroies up, but we couldn't see a thing due to fog and cloud cover.

As far as I know, this person is a chick. I've never been out to a meet yet...but you can almost never go wrong with references from a chick. So if you're up to it, try one of those out. I might have to soon. Mmmm fondue..

My Personal Choices:

Moose's in SF
Wine Cellar in Los Gatos
Bob's Steakhouse in SF (Top 10 in the US)
Gary Danko (#1 Restaurant in SF IMO)
Boulevard in SF
Aqua in SF
Sent Sovi in Saratoga
Chez Pannise in Berks (My #1 favorite Restaurant all time)
Roy's in SF (Good for Seafood)
Postrio in SF (A Wolfgang Puck Restaurant)

Usually for V-day these places have set 5-course meal that you pay a fixed amount for. Roughly 60-80 or so per person. Don't forget the flowers! Hope this helps!

Hehe, I took my boyfriend out to the fondue place last Friday 'cause we were both fondue virgins. He explained it as "hot pot city for white people" ROFL!! But honestly though, I would highly reccomend that place. I never knew melty cheese could be so amazing. We did surf & turf fondue for the entree, but they have all kinds of other stuff also. The flaming turtle chocolate fondue was off the hook!

For genuine good eats, great atmosphere and moderate prices check out:

East Bay: LeCoco's (Shattuck Ave.- excellent sicilian food, very intimate and romantic)

SF: Limon (look it up on sfgate.com, great peruvian food)

Peninsula: Pisces (California Ave, Burlingame-Aqua's little sister, same owners, great seafood, less expensive than Aqua)

Good times, have fun.
