Used WRB 02WRX at Subaru Santa Cruz... Was it one of yours?
Someone traded in a Blue '02 WRX sedan to Subaru Santa Cruz.
You took fanatically good care of it. (thank you)
You traded it in when you bought the STi (thank you)
You live somewhere in Santa Cruz. (good choice)
You had an aftermarket Uppipe, but removed it before tradein. (Oh well, they woulda' made you take it off anyway)
You left on a rear swaybar and some steel brake cables. (thank you)
I just bought your car.
(Bruce printed out the whole maintainance history for me. Thanks for havin' 'em re-do the clutch...)
Wow, these here WRX thingys go like a stung-dog!
I drove an 02 OBS for two years, untill it died of inertia poisoning a month ago. It sure is a different driving experience.
I like.
I can't help wonder if perhaps you are an i-clubber, since you seem to be fanatic about your subarus.
Feel free to get in touch if you want to visit your old car, or get some road-trip pictures of it in its new role as "back-road bomber"
I can't promise to keep it as prety as you have managed to, but I can promise to lavish great love.
[paranthetical thanks to BAN SUVS for his help in the ritual murder of Buru... yes, I had to edit the cookies manualy.}
Buru is dead. So now is "buru". His cookies have been burned and scattered on the high moors above Inverlochy. Peace to his people.
A new car calls for a new name, and so now it is as "BluBuru" that I will (ocasionally) ramble (more or less coherantly) on this fine forum.
Ayemen,
Crap-Due.

if it had a trailer hitch when you test drove it, then yes it was mine
It sounds like it was mine. Did you get the up-pipe? I told them to give it to you.
The car was (ahem) a sunday driver
Enjoy the ride!
BTW: your riding on axis metel master ultimates for brake pads, with Motul 600 brake fluid.

Hey Chris
Actually, I know for a fact that this was your car: I looked at the maintanance history, and your name was all over it. I just wasn't sure that you'd like your name plastered all over this forum... some folks like to remain anonymous.
What do you mean by "Sunday driver"? Surely you couldn't have put 40,000 plus miles on it driving only on weekends...
No, I didn't get the up-pipe. I'll stop in on Monday and have a word with them about that. Thanks.
What is the brand and specs of the rear sway bar?
The brakes: Yeah, this ****** stops on a dime... It seems like the ABS is much better behaved than my old OBS, did you change that system any, or is the WRX just a different critter than the OBS.
PS: the only noticable dent on it is above the drivers door; do you remember how that happenen? Just curious.
Well, Chris, thanks again for taking such good care of it. If there is another Santa Cruz meet anytime soon, It'd be a pleasure to meet you. Take care.
P.P.S. How ya likin' the STi?
Flax!

I have no idea how that nick happened... I think it was from the gardener, but that's only a theory, I was pretty pissed when I found it.
I have never driven an OBS, so I have no comparision. The brake pads and SS lines definately helped with the ABS, but you can still get the ABS in ice mode, you can search about this "feature" in the suspension forums...
The rear swaybar is stock. On the '02 the front and rear swaybars are 20mm.
The STI.....
<evil manical laughter>
The car is amazing....

Interesting,
The folks at SSC had no clue about the brake lines or pads, and seemed to have forgotten that you gave them the up-pipe, but both Charlie and Sandy seemed sure that it had an aftermarket rear sway-bar on it.
Oh well, goes like a sumbish as is.
In the short-term, its skid-plates, roof-bars, and some toothier tires.
Later on, some suspension mods with an eye toward rough roads...
Who knows after that...
I burried Paul,
Mike

I never "gave them" the uppipe... I just had a case of impatience and denial on taking out the uppipe before getting the STI.
I had to pay them to take it out as part of the sale.
As for the swaybars, it did at one point have coilovers and aftermarket swaybars installed, but I removed it all before I traded it in.
Oh yeah, did I tell you that you have a mildly tuned Vishu ECUTEC programed ECU? It will pass emissions the way it is, so hold onto that stock exhaust.

What does "mildly tuned" mean? I'm a total noob when it comes to tweaking the ECU. How does the performance likely differ from stock?

In answer to your first question "what do I mean by a sunday driver", I autocrossed the car in the local SCCA compitition.
The ECU has a "STX legal" reprogramming done by Vishnu. This implies that you have ignition and fuel trim changes (similar to what a unichip can do) but no modifications to boost, knock, TPS.
If you want to make power, ECUTEK is the way to if you want day to day reliability (which I did)
A case(s) ?plural? of wine for the swaybars? Hell, I'll even put them on for ya
send me a pm if your serious.

Hey Chris, I caught your car on fire today...
I'm serious. I was heading up Hwy9 from my place, and just in the middle of that 15 mph turn in front of Ahlgren winery, it just went "poof" and died. I pulled over, and when I popped the hood, one of the battery tie downs was glowing cherry red and just starting a merry little fire amongst all the plastic parts. Fortunately, I got it out quickly, and removed the battery, which had burst, but still seemed to be shorting. Actually, I got very lucky; if I hadn't have had some water with me, and if another random motorist passing by hadn't pulled out a fire extinguisher to help, I could have easily had to stand there and watch my new car burn.
Exciting.
A friend and I rope-towed it the few miles back to my house, and tomorrow it'll go for a piggy back ride to the dealership. I'm confident that they will fix it up well and treat me right.
I'm not upset or anything, so please don't think I'm laying this at your feet... I just thought you'd be interested.
I'm actually very happy that this happened now and not later... I'm leaving for a road-trip next week, and if this had happeded out in the middle of the coast ranges... ugly thought.
As to the PM I'll give it a shot. I've never used the feature before, and I'm not sure how it works... If you don't get anything within a few days, assume that I have flailed and raz me agian in this thread. Heck yeah I'm serious (although now it obviously has to wait untill I get this electrical issue sorted out.)

By the way, as I was waiting for my friend with the tow, a WRB WRX with wheels and other goodies rolled past. He gave me a wave... was that one of y'all?
