TV: Anybody know how to receive KGO-HD ch 7-1?

So I recently unplugged my TV, and now I can't get the HD version of KGO-ABC tv (non-hd channel seems to be on 207-1). I used to be able to receive it on channel 7-1. Anybody know how to fix this? I have a Samsung tv, and don't have an extra antenna on it (just whatever's built into the tv). I'm in SF.

Btw, for the channels, I've tried using antenna mode and cable mode. I mainly leave it on cable mode. I can get the NBC-HD ch 11-1 on cable mode but not on antenna mode.

I assume you already have cable TV service then channel 7-1 should be there. Antenna mode will not work if you don't have an external antenna. TVs do not come with antennas , just built-in TV tuners. I pick up 7-1 just fine in my area ( Signal strength usually in the upper 90% ) You could use a rabbit ear type antenna , works just fine.

I'm really surprised it worked before without an antenna. Did you move the tv? Are there obstructions between you and sutro tower? Try the $30 flatwave antenna from costco. I have one of those and am very impressed by it's performance.

I actually have Directv that uses a/v cables (no HD), and have the cable from comcast (no subscription) that's plugged into the tv. Just trying to watch local channels in HD. I had ch 7-1 like 4 days ago, but unplugged my tv and now can't get it back for some reason. The first time I received 7-1 was using the auto program channels setting. Tried it several times again and 7-1 doesn't show up anymore.

I moved it like maybe 1 foot to disconnect the cables. Other than that, it's in the same place.

Assuming your TV is digital, How was the strength prior to moving the TV? At my house, I get 2 bars which isn't enough causing KGO HD to some times glitch

never paid much attention to it, the signal I mean. I've only started watching the HD local channels for a couple weeks. I was getting annoyed that Fox was broadcasting 49ers games only in HD, and with non-hd (on my Directv), the scoreboard was always cut off.

But I just checked the non-hd KGO channel (207-1) and I'm only getting between 1-3 bar

I think you have to scan for available channels.

I use the auto program feature and it does that for me. However, if I manually enter a channel that's not on the channel list, it won't go to that channel. So if I were to press 7-1 on my remote, it won't do anything.

It may be possible the signal strength isn't good enough so you aren't recieving the channel.

I generally have 4-5 on nonhd KGO, with 1-3 HD KGO.

Sounds like you get it from your cable provider. Call them and ask...

ATSC is over the air

QAM is over cable. You are using the TV's QAM tuner to get those local stations. The right setting for the TV is Cable when scanning.

So just an update here, I did another auto program scan and I now have ch 7-1, but only at night. It does not show up at all during the daytime. Anybody know why this is the case? At night I get around 4-6 bars of signal strength.

I also completely lost the non-hd version of abc (ch 207-1) when I did the auto program re-scan.

Signal propagation depends on the time of the day, weather, etc... So you may be effected if you are right "at the edge" of signal strength. That's for OTA signal of course, not Cable.

Cable providers no longer have to give the free channels for free BTW. Expect all these free locals to be gone within the year. Cable providers now have the right to charge you for the basic service.
