Tune up without Cobb AP
I'm too poor to buy a (new) Cobb AP. And there's none on the internet that is friendly to my budget. So I was wondering if anyone does tuneups for a simple TBE setup? I have all the parts for it and am eager to get it installed. But I just don't have the right EM. So I was hoping to go the cheap route and just get it tuned.
On a side note, is it possible to keep the stock ECU settings?

Sounds like you sir are looking for a tune using open source (Tactrix). Since the Cobb AP comes in around $300-$350 for Version 1, $695 for a new Version 2 and the Open Source route is less than $100 that sounds like the way you probably want to go. However, if you do not have a laptop and/or do not know how to tune or do not want to tune the car yourself, then you will probably need to find another member that can tune your car for you. If you come out to the BAIC meet on Sunday I would not be surprised if you could be driving how as Stage 2. You should inquire about it in the Suby Meet thread to see if someone can hook you up.

If you go catless UP you won't need a tune, but you will need a 02 Simulator piece to trick the OBD system. Just save up $300 or so and get the COBB AP there are a lot more tuners that work with that system then open source.

Why is no one flagging the dealer for reflashing without customers approval?
If a dealer reflashed my car and I had a ap that was no good because of it. I tell you what... I would not be worried about sending my ap back to cobb. I'd have the dealer buy me a new Ap for making repairs to my car I didnt approve. Which is illegal in many if not all states.. Regardless if its a free repair or not. They still need the cars owner to aprove the work.
So you guys pulled a ecutek,
I can't look at cobb anymore because if the protuner is not avalible and the tuner screws up. I cant fix it myself! Yes it does happen.
I hope you guys at cobb read the ecutek backlash and fall out from their mistake.

The legality of a dealership flashing the ECU without the vehicle owner's permission may possibly be disputed by the fact that a lot of the instances where this problem was occurring involved warranty repairs or maintenance. I'm sure the dealership could argue that the vehicle should have been out of warranty due to aftermarket engine management. This may be why no one has spoken out against such actions.
I do not know the motivation behind ECUTEK's decision to lock ECUs, but I can say we started doing so at the popular demand of our tuner network and to prevent the aforementioned issue of having AccessPORTs left unusable after a dealership had their way.
However, you must remember that you are free to change your maps with the AccessPORT to avoid having a blown motor, or you can simply just uninstall the AccessPORT in order to have full control over the ECU once more.
It was a fix for the public and for our tuners and not done with any malicious intent. If anyone has any suggestions on how we could possibly rectify the problems that led us to locking ECUs, feel free to email me at shayne@cobbtuning.com. I will take any suggestion seriously, though I can not guarantee it will be put into effect.
