Yea definitely needs some work. It seemed way too scripted with the Viper chase with cameras being stationed at 'random' hiding spots. As much as the BBC version is scripted too, it seems more obviously fake in the US version.

That was a horrible copy and paste of the british version... right down to the jokes and phrases ("and across the line!")
They key to making this show work will be cutting Tanner's lines by about 80%.

Yeah, I'll give it a chance. Watching the pilot episodes of some of the shows I like now always makes me laugh. The problem is that they didn't do a true pilot episode, they concentrated what they think are the elements that make the BBC version good. The problem is that it is no specific element or combination of elements that makes it good... Its the entire show itself.

That was not good at all. I don't get it you aren't re-inventing the wheel here take the formula and duplicate it. I had to watch two episodes of the "real" Top Gear just so I don't to bed with that crap fresh in my mind...

I see the show as a work in progress.
Totally off topic, but who remembers the good ol' Tiff Needle days?

Top Gear USA definitely needs to find its own personality. The show may improve as the hosts become more comfortable with everything and each other. Maybe a change in host(s) is required like in the British one: James May replaced Jason Dawe and that definitely helped.

They didn't even crack one joke about the Stig.
I don't think the series will be on for more than 2 years max. Too much money and probably not enough ratings to justify the costs. It would be better for them to bring episodes of Top Gear UK (not everyone has the BBC channel) to the states than make an american version.
