You can use any 75w90 gear oil, but subaru probably recommends some specific one.

For the 5-MT I would recommend non-synthetic 75w90.

Is it just me, or this place sometimes feeling like Nasioc? Ya know, people not searching and what not.

Yes, it's a Torx 70 and subaru's OEM fluid is a great fluid to use. In fact, I think there's a guy selling some in norcal classifieds so you won't have to buy a 55 gallon drum.

If you want a top quality synthetic transmission fluid you should try Swepco. LIC Motorsports in Novato stock it and it is very good.

I have Extra-S, but it comes in 20L containers. Get some friends in on it!

I like Amsoil Severe Gear or Subaru Gold for the 5MT.

Thanks

Swepco is the ****. But I don't think it's synthetic, but that's doesn't matter... Swepco is the real deal.

I have tried Swepco 201 and am currently on Subaru Extra-S, and prefer the Extra-S. Neither Swepco 201 nor Extra-S is synthetic though. Stick with GL-5 unless you have shifting problems. I bought a couple of quarts from AHQ.

Sorry I'm on my phone so I can't see profiles but of your near the east bay, livermore subaru sells extra-s by the quart if you bring your own container, or auto hq sells it by the quart in redwood city.

I prefer Extra-S subaru fluid. For the rear diff I like Motul it really helped to silence all the binding noises when making tight turns.

You can use a big pipe wrench if you can't find a t70.
