Question Tranny fluid...Motul vs Swepco vs Uncle Scotty's?

Need to perform a tranny fluid change. Having trouble getting my tranny to go into reverse and first from a stop. Done some research on the forums and talked to a couple of my enthusiast friends. Looking for the best fluid to run.

Heard Uncle scotty's cocktail has its downfalls with pluggin passages and breaking down but still don't understand why people are pro-cocktail.

Heard great things about Motul 300.

Read alot of subaru shops are running Swepco...

Don't know what I should go with. I'm about 4 hours north of the bay so either one I choose wil have to be an online order.

Any ideas on which to run? All help much appreciated! Any suggestions on where to order would also be appreciated. Lubrify.com???

I'm a big fan of Redline MTL in general. BUT have consistently heard to only use Subaru Spec oil in Transmissions and Diff's

Swepco is a good choice. I get it from Lubrify.com, but that wouldn't be an option for you. Benny of Lubrify.com doesn't ship his stuff. You should send him a message.

swepco> extra-s any day of the week. the reason that swepco isnt all over the forums is not many dealers/vendors carry it. Go to LIC or call them up. That stuff is great. I was in socal for school and there was no one around with swepco so i went with the Extra-S, man what a downgrade. The first time i came back was head up to LIC and flush that out.

So census leans towards subaru specific extra S?

Still skeptical on running a cocktail I've heard the overtime results can cause damage?

Does anyone know if maybe just running subaru extra s would help improve my synchro mesh?(People claim coktails will help but ...) I'm just geussing beings that I'm only having difficulty in first and reverse that it may be synchro related?

Thanks again guys always get my best answers from i-club

Some Dealerships like Livermore will sell you Extra-S by the qrt, but you bring your own container ( I brought a windshield gallon bottle).

You can get Swepco from here:

http://www.licmotorsports.com/produc...0_swp-201-8090

FYI:

I am running Swepco in my trans now. It will not solve grinds... if that is what you are looking to remedy.

I thought about a cocktail, but I read about people having trans failure, so I went with Swepco just because LIC uses it really... and the guys there give a lot of info to the forums and from what I read, are great in customer service.

Give LIC a call. they gave me a few tips too. Based on the type of rear diff, you might need to put an additive in.

I used Extra-S in my old 5 speed and it ran well too.

Subaru's Extra-S Transmission fluid formula was mixed with a synchro blend in mind. I am currently running it and it is fine. Also you will not feel an instant change with Extra-S until after at least 200 miles of driving.

Honestly each car is different and so is each transmission. You have to find out what works for you, in the specific region and environment you drive in. I would just narrow it down to several, pick one that seems the most appropriate, then try it out. If it doesnt work as well as you think.... then time to jump to the next alternative in line. Hope this helps.

Ive ran extra s, the cocktail and amsoil. I would say amsoil>uncle scotty>extra s. Im currently running the cocktail again and wish i hadnt decided to save a couple bucks and stuck with amsoil. Just liked the way the tranny felt better

I've been thinking of picking up some swepco in bulk. I need to decide if I'm doing my clutch and flush or a complete drivetrain/motor swap.
