Thats why I say lets do both..
I like the car shop drive as it helps in the publics eyes. But also its easy to leave a drop spot without someone taking the food/toys.... In front of a supermarket its hard to police that.

I think a toy drive is a better idea. although I have read much on the subject but even the canned food drives and the food pantry's and stuff are not having great luck. some are even having to turn people away allready and its not even christmas time yet.
maybe doing a central spot for a toy/can food drive is a good idea. that way if people can do one or the other the have a central spot to go. plus you got to advertise it. let people know where at what you are going to be doing. i think this takes a great deal of effort.
im not saying it wouldnt be worth it but you gotta organize on a grand scale to have something become great.
