Totalled my WRX need ?? answered

So a couple weeks ago I was involved in an accident where my car is now totalled to the insurance company.. I was gonna buy it back but they are asking 5k for it.. But they said they will give me 14k for my car but i can't remove anything from the car not even switch it out for stock parts without them taking money off of the settlement... Is this true? And they want a "professional" to swap my tail lights, my stereo. my center console exhaust, and my new coil overs... I told them I would do it to save time and money. But they said they will give me less money and charge me to have the parts taken off. Im going tomorrow for the settlement someone give me the light on what I can do!

I have no experience with this situation but my understanding is that you can only retrieve non-installed/insurance-covered items from the car if you are taking their payout.

if they are not giving you extra money for the mods, I cant see how they can charge you to take them off, but I dunno

that is usually how things work out =( (sorry about the wreck btw)

if possible...you could imply to them that you will have it done by a professional and then just swap it all out yourself. unless they want you to do it at one of their approved locations...which will probably be the case (my insurance company had to approve of the place where i got my windshield replaced)

depending on how much they take out from the settlement though you might be able to sell the tailights stereo exhaust and coilovers and make your money back.

good luck

^^^ he'd have to make $19k just to break even ($5k for buying the car back, another $14k to cover the money he could have been given)

Just depends on the insurance company I guess. Some are easier to deal with.

Most insurance companies have specific add-on coverage for added equipment. I'm sure we all think that if they aren't covering your added-on parts that you should be entitled to retrieve them. But they may see it as, if you wanted those items accounted for, you should have apid for the coverage, too bad.

Insurance companies are evil and most people would be better off in the long run without any of them. Unfortunately, they've sold this scam to everyone and the government so now you are required to have it and all the systems from body shops to emergency rooms have created their business models around them. We're all screwed

WTF my last thing didn't post.

Im gonna go down there today and take my brand new hella horns whether she likes it or not. They (Progressive) has to show me a list of all items that they added onto the price and im gonna go thrue it and make sure they added in everything as little as my steering rack bushing and my Kart Boy exhaust hangers. Why be so picky ? Cause my insurance lady NEVER calls me back and she lies to me about stupid ****. example...
I goto the body shop to check on my car and the guy there tells me that my insurance lady says they are just gonna total it out and they have had the final approval to put it back together.. So I call my insurance lady and she gives me a huge run around telling me she doesnt know when it will be ready but that they have more measuring todo. SO I get mad cause of the two different stories that im hearing.. So today when her and I talk in person Im gonna confront her about her ****ty service and possibly try to get more $$ out of my car. Cause as it sits It's worth more to part it out... The entire body is clean just the frame is twisted

Edit
And my air bags never went off.

Insurance companies are out to get every penny they can. If they are claiming to recoupe the price of your aftermarket parts. Show them invoices for the price, and check the KBB of your car in it's pre-accident state. If it's no where close, fight it. Don't accept the settlement. If they aren't giving you money for aftermarket parts, tell them you will contact a lawyer since they are technically 'stealing' those parts from you. Drop the L word whenever you are talking to insurance companies, trust me they answer ALOT faster, and tend to be on your side.

If they ARE however giving you money for the parts on top of the price of the car, then there really isn't much you can do:whoknows:

If the frames twisted then the car is totaled... Even if it's not techincally totalled, i'd push for it TO be totaled with a twisted frame. It won't drive quite right ever again at that point. Insurance companies try to make it feel like you HAVE to settle with them, but that's not the case. Tell her to get ****ed and you're calling your lawyer if she doesn't cut the bull****

I know the frame instantly totals it but what can I really do with a lawyer?
