Torque Wrench Question

Any places (preferably Sacramento area) that can calibrate a torque wrench? Maybe a machine shop or local mechanic?

Any ways to calibrate one yourself without being a rocket scientist?

Just compare your wrench to another new or just calibrated one. They should click at the same time. The only other way would be to go through your local Snap-Off dealer.

hmmm, I have never heard of a torque wrench getting knocked out of calibration unless it was physically bent. But then again, I guess anything is possible.

good luck with that.

eh the craftsman one SUCKS!! mine broke already (10 months) and its not warranted for life .. I WAS PISSED when i found that out..

Anyways i picked up a new one at harbor freight tools for 12.99 (on sale) and i swear its a million times better then the craftsman one i had.

So I say just get a new one!

I have a Crapsman torque wrench also but I like it alot. It is the newer kind where you pull down this **** on the bottom and twist it. Mine performs flawlessly.

Eric:

I work in Rocklin & will calibrate your torque wrench for free.
I can even provide a NIST traceable certificate as well.

tip: when ur not using the torque wrench unscrew it all the way out it will keep it in calibration longer.

the craftsman "hobby" tool line does suck. ive broken some of their tools and that says a lot because im not the strongest guy out there. their open ends will also bend around a nut sometimes cuz they are POS. i havent used their professional line of tools yet and i probably wont because snap-on keeps me happy.

their replacement policy does not apply to some things, torque wrenches is one of them.. i was under the same assumption as you and found out the hard way

snowhumper: good tip, i personally knew this and ALWAY stored it properly, my craftsman one that BROKE was the pull turn bottom clicker kind and at first the rubber handle started sliding around, making the numbers hard to read then the gears striped and the whole thing took a sh^t... and this was on a 72fp torque.
