Tire Rotation Question

Quick question about tire rotation: I was under the impression on a subaru impreza 05, one should swap the front right with the rear right, and the front left with the rear left, but my friend is indicating otherwise...can anyone provide me with a link or their expertise? Thanks!

You are right. Friends are only good for buying you a beer... never listen to their advice!

also, most tires are directional, so you have not choice but to swap the fronts with the backs.

just look in your owners manual, it clearly states that you should keep the wheels on the same side of the car, and only switch front to back, not sided to side like sn00p dogg.

only tires that matter are either staggered tires (different size in rear vs front) or directional tires. Otherwise, I was told @ America's Tire Co. to go RF -> LR, RR -> RF, LF -> RR, LR -> LF so after 4 rotations each tire has touched every corner of the vehicle.

Oh well. I guess America's Tires know more the SOA. Maybe they should be writing the owner's book?

From Owner's Manual. Bold text in parentheses is quoted from Manual, also. This rotation pattern is for the AWD Subaru models sold in the U.S. (not just the Impreza, AFAIK), but the Subaru's rotation pattern does not apply to other vehicle makes so America's Tire Store's advice may be valid for others.

When in doubt, please Read The Friendly Manual.

I have a question on the topic. if two tires are clearly muchly more worn(probably been in the front a long time), and the other pair are much better. Will that be bad for the diff? I guess how different in circumference difference between the front and the back will cause problems to the car?...(one pair look like they are on the bar on the outside of the tire..., the other pair still have a lot of meat on the outside...
