Tint Fix it Ticket. what to do??
#46
For F*cks sake people...remove your tint, put on your front plate and lose the loud fartcan pipes....why get tickts for things that have no performance value for your car....especially is you don't wan't a pig sticking his snout in your car and taking a deep sniff
Save your money for a quality downpipe and tune
Save your money for a quality downpipe and tune
Protects your interior, filters UV, reduces glare, keeps the temp down inside your car, lowers visibility of your possessions in your car...
yeah tint sure is useless....

one thing people forget about when it comes to tint.
it does make your windows harder to break.
I seen it a few times where someone was trying to do a "smash and grab" but when the window did not initially fall from hitting it, they would probably try and get past wall of shattered glass now being held together by tint, and run off.
I had a few roomates back in the day that would come out to a car alarm going off, a shattered window, but stuff still in the car.
and if anyone has ever had a window in a car broken during a burglary, you know you can never (AND I MEAN NEVER) get every piece of glass out of the car. Years later you will still find pieces under seats and in panels...

And yeah. I changed out my carpet last summer and I found a BUNCH of glass in the car under the seats.

Simply put, the limit is 70%. Most CHP have tint checkers in the car. Most don't use them. If it's over 50% you're pushing it. If you tint the back of the car with something like a 20% you might be able to pull off 35%. I've been doing that for about 10 years. When I get pulled over I roll down my windows and turn the dome light on so they can clearly see me.
The tint stuff is for officer safety.
My wife has a super light tint on hers that was on there when she bought the car. She got popped last year.
Basically... if you like the tint and are o.k. with dealing with the risk just pay the fine. It's cheaper than taking it off and having it reinstalled and paying the $25 to have it signed off.
I've looked in to the permission stuff and some docs will write you a note and some officers will take it. But they don't have to as in California there is no medical exemptions. I'm still thinking about having my wife get a note. She has gnarly migraine issues and the tint helps.
It's one of those pay to play type of deals. Like front license plates.
Mine need to be redone so I'd probably pull it off and get it signed off and reinstall it. Haaa.

I love front side tint as well, but after the third ticket I was over it. Each tint ticket also scored me some other BS ticket as well: front plate, tint cover on rear plate, and tint on tails even though though they still EASILY met the legal requirement for visibility at the specified distance.

Thats not exactly true. CA law states you can have tint on the front windows as long as there is a minimum of 70% light transfer.
70% is hella light, so it looks like nothing is there.
I pushed my luck and went with limo in the back seat and cargo area of my wagon, a stripe of 20% on the top of the windshield and 50% on the front.
Got pulled by CHP in Tahoe a few weeks ago and he let me go.
