Thule Box on WRX wagon / Forester
#2
I have the Thule evolution 1600. It is nice and big and silver like my car. Not quite the same silver but close enough. A bit pricy but large enough for snowboards and all but the longer ski lengths. I don't use it for that tho.

I have a picture somewhere but not handy right now
On the standard WRX rack, the wing hits the box even when it's all the way forward. You can either 1. remove the wing when you use the box (I found this to be difficult and a pain) or 2. arrange for the tailgate to not open so far (I did this with some braided rope hooked around the telescoping door struts) or 3. use another Thule cross bar mounted forward of the factory rack on its own brackets to mount the front of the box (you need the full bar and brackets etc.) With this method you can consider a longer box if you have longer skis. Someone on NASOIC (when it was I-club) did this you might find it if you did a search over there
The smaller size Sidekick Thule box is probably good if you just want it for camping. This is new since I looked. There's an older model called the Excursion that is rear opening (I didn't like that) and almost as capcious as the evolution 1600. It was alot cheaper but no good for boards or skis. Yakima had something similar called a SpaceCadet
